Oscar M. Valencia
Economist / Principal Specialist in the Fiscal Management Division at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)
If you've found your way here, it's likely because we share a common passion:
My passion has been advancing macroeconomic stability and fostering a brighter economic future. As an economist, I’ve devoted my career to shaping macroeconomic policies, ensuring fiscal sustainability and addressing challenges through targeted research and technological solution, all with the aim of improving lives in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Since 2019, I have led the development of a technological platform that provides advanced forecasting models, calibration of fiscal rules, and early warning systems. It is called FISLAC, and today it is a tool used by governments and policymakers to strengthen macro-fiscal policies.
Behind FISLAC, I lead an interdisciplinary team committed to promoting fiscal sustainability across the region.
I have witnessed firsthand how research and analysis can go beyond papers and evolve into practical tools for strengthening institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean.
For years, I have focused on fiscal policy and public debt in emerging economies, driven by a desire to not only share my knowledge, but to make a real impact.
Publishing short articles has given me the chance to share the key findings and highlights of my research in a very effective and accessible way.

To solve any problem, here are three questions to ask yourself: First, what could I do? Second, what could I read? And third, who could I ask?
